Files labeled "OctupoleRAP_scan_*.txt" contain data for the incoherent interrogation of a single Yb+ ion using light at 467nm to excite the octupole transition with different sweep rates. Within the measurements the frequency of the excitation beam was scanned using a double pass acouto optical modulator (AOM). The frequency is sweeped adiabatically over 100Hz on the AOM with varying sweep time. The source of the rf for the AOM is generated by mixing an arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) (Keysight Wavegen 33512B) output with a fixed frequency AOM.

The columns of the files show the UTC time in seconds, the time passed since the start of the experiment in seconds, the peak-to-peak amplitude of the output of the AWG in V, the frequency output of the AWG in Hz, the AWG offset in V, the reference detection in a given region of interest to prove the experiment cycle valid, the signal of whether the ion is excited or not. "0" indicates it being excited, "1" indicates it being not excited. The last column is irrelevant for the measurements.

The data in this folder was used to determine the relation of the sweep rate to the excitation probablity of the ion to the electronic octupole transition with the method of rapid adiabatic passage with laser light near 467nm (Fig. 2 a) of the manuscript). In each file a sweep rate was used, leading to different excitation probabilities of the octupole transition. File "OctupoleRAP_scan_03.txt" anf "OctupoleRAP_scan_06.txt" were discarded due to invalid measurement.

The 467nm sweep rate in Hz/s were:
